Wedding Photography Meets Vietnamese Tradition

Highlights from Vu & Hien’s Special Day

Some weddings leave an unforgettable mark—not just for their beauty but also for the heartfelt traditions, vibrant celebrations, and love that radiates from every moment. Vu and Hien’s Vietnamese wedding was a stunning example of how wedding photography can preserve traditions and moments full of joy.

A Thoughtful Birthday Surprise

It’s not every day that I celebrate my birthday while photographing an elegant wedding. However, November 9 brought me exactly that special combination. As the day ended, Vu and Hien surprised me with the sweetest gesture: serenading me with “Happy Birthday.” This unexpected moment perfectly reflected their thoughtfulness and the kind of love they share with those around them.

A Day Steeped in Tradition and Joy

The Traditional Tea Ceremony: Honoring Generations

The bridal party stands outdoors at a Vietnamese tea ceremony, holding bright cloth-covered trays.

The wedding day began with a traditional Vietnamese tea ceremony. Together, Vu and Hien incorporated this beautiful custom to honor the generations who came before. This tradition symbolized gratitude, respect, and the blending of two families.

Watching Vu and Hien offer tea to their elders reminds us of how deeply rooted customs connect us to loved ones. Steeped in tradition, every moment carried so much meaning—capturing them through wedding photography was truly a privilege.

A Timeless Wedding Ceremony at Vietnamese Martyrs Church

After tea, the celebration continued with a traditional wedding ceremony at the stunning Vietnamese Martyrs Church. The family had thoughtfully adorned the stage with beautiful floral arrangements, creating an elegant setting for the couple’s vows.

The church itself was breathtaking. Its stained glass windows cast colorful light across the space, complementing the Catholic imagery and traditional procession. As Hien walked down the aisle, illuminated by the soft light flooding in from the windows at the front of the church, it was a moment of pure elegance and beauty.

The ceremony was a perfect blend of reverence and romance, creating a timeless atmosphere that was a joy to capture.

A Joyous Reception Full of Vibrancy and Fun

As the day continued, we moved to the Nativity Sacred Heart Center for a reception to eat, drink, and celebrate with all of the guests. Vietnamese weddings are known for lively receptions, and Vu and Hien’s did not disappoint.

The night was filled with heartfelt speeches, laughter, and a unique Vietnamese tradition: table toasting. The couple made their way to every table, sharing drinks with their guests and toasting the start of their life together. As is tradition, Hennessy was the drink of choice, and the energy in the room was infectious!

The party was filled with laughter, flowing drinks, and endless joy, creating moments that are forever captured through wedding photography.

Why Weddings Like Vu and Hien’s Are So Special to Capture

As a photographer, I’m lucky enough to document countless love stories, each as unique as the couple at its center. But there’s something incredibly magical about weddings like Vu and Hien’s. Their ceremony highlights how wedding photography can capture cultural traditions and modern celebrations, creating something timeless.

From the heartfelt tea ceremony to the joyous table toasting, Vu and Hien’s wedding was a testament to the love they share with their families and community.
